The criteria for this category are necessarily more ambiguous. In some cases an interaction or merger is clearly occurring involving material aligned near the minor axis of the other component. The question is whether the resulting product will be a polar ring. In other cases a galaxy may appear to be quite normal with only very subtle clues suggesting that it might actually be a polar ring seen from an orientation which is not advantageous.
